The opening ceremony of Indian Premier League 5 in Chennai on Tuesday night was star-studded affair with the a host of stars from Bollywood but the biggest draw doubtlessly was the American singer Katy Perry.

The fifth season of IPL kicked off with a dazzling opening ceremony at YMCA ground and saw performances from Bollywood stars Salman Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Kareena Kapoor and a poetry reading session by Amitabh Bachchan. The highpoint of the evening was Katy Perry’s scintillating gig. The 27-year-old was dressed in a choli coupled with gauzy, pink-coloured lowers studded with sequins. Perry had on a bindi on her forehead and also a maang tika.

This was her first performance in India and she sang the popular number ‘Teenage Dream’. Among the audiences were the captains and players of the nine IPL teams that will be playing this season.

The second best act of the evening came from Salman Khan. The actor entered the venue riding on a truck and danced to a medley of songs like “Character dheela hai”, “Teri meri”, “Munni Badnaam” and “Do You Wanna Partner”.

Kareena Kapoor too performed to a medley of the songs from her movies and Priyanka Chopra even interacted and joked around with the Chennai Super Kings skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
