Why Tebow Must Start for Jets to Compete - Bleacher Report

If you thought the Tim Tebow saga was annoying last year, just wait until the New York media gets a hold of him. Whether or not you think he can play quarterback, the Jets need to realize that their best chance to compete in the AFC East is with him as the starter.

There are a lot of reasons that Rex Ryan won't do it. Ryan, for reasons known only to him, seems to really like Mark Sanchez. The Jets just gave Sanchez a big contract extension earlier this year when they couldn't convince Peyton Manning to play for Gang Green.

Plus, you have to wonder how the wide receivers are going to react knowing that Tebow, who is a terrible player when he has to stand in the pocket, would be the one under center.

Despite all the red flags, eventually you have to do what you have to do in order to win games. That is what happened to Denver last season, and it worked out well for the Broncos, as they made the postseason and won a game.

Who Should Be The Jets Starting QB In 2012?

Who Should Be The Jets Starting QB In 2012?

  • Mark Sanchez

  • Tim Tebow

Don't get me wrong: I don't think Tebow should be a starting quarterback in the NFL. I think he got far too much credit for the Broncos winning last year, considering the defense had to work overtime to keep the team in a lot of games because of Tebow's inept offensive performance.

However, when you look at the way the Jets are constructed, it is obvious that Tebow is the only quarterbackâ€"and I use that term looselyâ€"who can help this team.

Even if you believe in Santonio Holmes, Stephen Hill, Dustin Keller and Shonn Greene, they need time to make plays happen. The Jets offensive line is atrocious. They can't block anyone to save their lives, so what chance does Sanchez, who needs to stay in the pocket, have to make plays?

Like it or not, Tebow has the ability to scramble out of situations that most quarterbacks aren't capable of. He can turn a broken play into something positive. Granted, when he does have time to throw, he is still going to run around and throw off his back foot, leaving the ball short for his receivers.

For the Jets, who have a myriad of problems that go well beyond who their starting quarterback should be, Tebow is their best option to have any chance to compete in 2012.
