Tim Tebow Tweaks New York Media for Inaccurate Reports: Fan's Reaction - Yahoo! Sports

New York Jets quarterback Tim Tebow handles the media with the skill of a polished politician, but he may be starting to get fed up with inaccurate reports from local outlets like AOL's Patch, which falsely reported that he was spotted eating lunch in Suffolk County, and the NY Post for writing that he would make a great match with Taylor Swift after the two were spotted on a "dinner date."

Tebow recently denied that he has ever been to Northport, where he was reported by Patch to have been scarfing down tacos. He also denied that he was dating Swift, telling E! Online that he's "definitely single."

With so many tabloid-esque articles about Tebow making their way to the front pages of the New York newspapers, the new Jets quarterback seems to finally be taking a stand against the slew of articles about him that have no facts behind them.

"They've been very accurate in their reporting," Tebow sarcastically said of the New York media. "First, I was living in the city. Then I was in Hoboken-and I've never even been to Hoboken. I think I've dated three or four different girls I've never met. But it's been interesting."

Tebow is probably right on the money that New York outlets have been discussing his love life and possibilities of where he'll be moving to, rather than placing the focus on the football field.

I can't knock the media for doing so, as we're coming up on the end of June and there hasn't been much to discuss in the way of football activities.

In all honesty, there is no quarterback controversy brewing. Mark Sanchez will be the New York Jets' starting quarterback on Opening Day against the Buffalo Bills, and Tim Tebow will be the backup.

Tebow will not beat out Sanchez for the starters' role until Sanchez does something to lose it, and that won't come until at least September.

In the meantime, you can expect plenty more gossipy stories about Tebow that would seemingly be more fitting of a Hollywood movie star.

Tebow is a cool cat, and he seemed to just shrug off the inaccurate reporting with his additional comments on the matter. "It's been interesting," he added. "And fun...I just try to be myself and have fun and smile and laugh, but sometimes some of them are taken aback by it. It's like, 'Why aren't you more serious?' Because I like to laugh and have fun. I enjoy my life."

I'm hoping that local media outlets take a little more time to get their reports right and fill them with factual information, rather than just spreading rumors about where he lives or who he's dating without having facts to back it up.

It's hard for me to take sides on this matter, as I can see it from both angles.

The media needs to come up with great stories about the New York Jets when there isn't much to report in the month of June, so they come up with fun, gossipy angles about where the former Denver Broncos standout lives and who his girlfriend may or may not be.

Tebow, on the other hand, has a legitimate gripe when it comes to inaccurate reporting. As an athlete, all you can hope for is that your local media outlets will post factual content.

Does Tebow have a legitimate beef with the New York media? Let me know in the comments.
