Repeat isn't in the cards. I get it that Tim Tebow strikes a chord with a certain segment of society because of how he carries himself. He's undoubtedly an exemplary young man, albeit a bit too much of a religious zealot for my tastes and others who like our sports sans religion. What I cannot understand is how people who claim to be Broncos fans do not see Tebow for what he is. Beating Pittsburgh in the playoffs was something that should be kept in the Broncos Almanac forever. But this is where Tebowmaniacs lose all perspective and the respect of a serious football fan: What happened last year cannot and will not happen on a recurring basis. It's akin to defying the law of physics. Tebow's time in Denver was a mini- lottery win,
a lightning strike, and nothing more, unless the Almighty gives Tebow the throwing motion and field vision of Peyton Manning or Tom Brady. If that happens, I'll become a born-again Christian and devote my life to a higher cause.Robert, Telluride
Kiz:Well, Tebow would be happy to roll away that stone of doubt for you. We here at Kickin' It Headquarters agree with your football analysis. But, if someway, somehow, Tebow leads the Jets to the playoffs, when we hear from you next Easter, here's assuming your location will be a hospital built by the quarterback for children in the Philippines.
Sanchez on hot seat. Tebow is a healthy quarterback, while Manning is a QB with a recurring medical issue. Broncos executive John Elway will be fired if Manning goes down and the Broncos' backup is Caleb Hanie. Bottom line: Denver will never win a Super Bowl with a fragile Manning. Peyton is the past. Eli Manning is in his prime for the New York Giants. Of course, Tebow will never be No. 2 for the Jets. Mark Sanchez will be dumped as Jets fans scream for Tebow.
Cowboy Joe, New York
Kiz: Cowboy Joe? There can't be any way you are the guy Jon Voight played in
"Midnight Cowboy." Didn't think so. But you have one thing 100 percent correct, my friend: Sanchez will have to be tougher than Crocodile Dundee to avoid getting run over by the Tebow Bus rolling from Times Square to Madison Avenue.Karl isn't cutting it. As a Nuggets season-ticket holder for 30-plus years, I ask you to stop cutting coach George Karl so much slack. This is the team he wanted. No stars and a collection of decent but not great players who hustle and steal games early every season, then run out of gas and players (because of injuries) every year in the playoffs. Face it, Karl's style is much better suited to the college game, where the only star is the coach. It's time for ownership to face facts: Karl is not the coach to develop these young Denver players and must be replaced.
Pedro, Lone Tree
Kiz: Can't see the Nuggets firing Karl one year after giving him a contract extension. But Karl is 60 years old. Before he hangs up his whistle, I would like to see what he could do coaching in college. How about in his hometown, at the University of Pittsburgh?
Bye-bye, Ubaldo. I think Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki is a class act. However, I would have loved to see him thump Cleveland pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez after getting beaned. Tulo's career is continuing to take off, and Ubaldo's is plummeting. So glad the Rockies dumped Jimenez when they did.
Robert, Littleton
Kiz: Two men enter! One man leaves! If that's the game, my money's on Tulo.
Stop all that talk, Tulo
And today's parting shot is a more fierce brushback pitch than Ubaldo Jimenez would dare to throw.
I would like to see Troy Tulowitzki keep his mouth shut, get a few more clutch hits and win some sort of meaningful title before we start comparing him to Gen. Patton or Derek Jeter. Right now, Tulo looks like Colorado's version of some media addict â" Jessie Jackson? Tebow? â" who can't get enough attention.
