Report: Tim Tebow may want out of New York if he remains a backup QB - Washington Post (blog)

If it turns out that his mere presence really has ignited a fire in Mark Sanchez, Tim Tebow might make a quick escape from New York in hopes of being a starting quarterback for some other NFL team.

“I think he will be a good soldier. At the end of the year, I think he will express those concerns to the Jets. He will want to move on,” an unnamed source told Gary Myers of the New York Daily News. “The one thing about Tebow is he is the quintessential team player. He would never do anything that is going to undermine the team. But he's football-aholic. It's in his blood…

“Absolutely he will talk to the Jets or we will have misevaluated his competitive nature. There comes a point, where they get it and realize this is who I am and just accept that role. Tebow is not there yet.”

Tebow’s role â€" absent a Sanchez meltdown or injury â€" has been limited on offense and special teams. In the Jets’ 48-28 victory over the Buffalo Bills, he played 10 snaps on offense and four on special teams. He picked up 11 yards on five rushing attempts and recovered an onside kick late in the game.

It’s not particularly shocking that, after leading the Denver Broncos to the playoffs last season as Tebowmania swept the land, Tebow would want to continue to be a starting quarterback. Despite being traded to the Jets this spring, he reiterated in early August that “I’m a quarterback.” This weekend’s opponent â€" the Pittsburgh Steelers â€" is the team he and the Broncos vanquished in the playoffs, a tough reminder of what used to be for Tebow. Perhaps Jacksonville in his home state might have been a better destination than New York. From ESPN New York columnist Ian O’Connor:

Here's one thing Sanchez and his friend don't bring up in [the quarterback] room: Tebow is the first quarterback to win a postseason game and open the following season out of the starting lineup -- for reasons other than retirement or injury -- since Trent Dilfer was Seattle's No. 2 in 2001 after winning it all with Baltimore, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

So a young man with a near-perfect life has to get by with a wildly imperfect job. Mark Sanchez means business, or it sure looked like he did against Buffalo, and that means the starting quarterback inside Tebow might've been better off in Jacksonville, competing against the lesser likes of Blaine Gabbert and Chad Henne near home, sweet home.
