Tim Tebow and Jesus in GQ. What could be a more controversial mix than that?
Nothing, apparently.
Fox News reports that a Jesus-like pose made by the football star during his Florida Gator quarterback days--and now featured in GQ magazine (again)--is riling some more feathers and creating controversy where none exists.
Apparently the young Heisman Trophy winner posed shirtless, and with his arms outstretched and his legs crossed during a photo spread for the men's mag back in his college days. GQ ran the photo back then, but the rest of the world didn't really take note.
Now, on the heels of Tebow mania hitting the nation--and a trade from the Denver Broncos to the New York Jets--GQ thought they would hype the photo again with a tweak, making it black and white to hide the Gator pants Tebow is wearing in it.
And what happens as a result?
Tebow is called a "narcissist", a "fraud" and a "sexy Jesus" by opposition of the famous Christian athlete. And all because of his years ago Jesus pose.
Cam Newton, another former Florida player who gained recognition after also becoming a Heisman Trophy winner doesn't care what Tim Tebow is wearing or posing as; he just laments the fact that he could have gotten to know the football star but didn't during earlier times.
"I didn't take advantage of what was right in front of me. If I had, maybe his mentality would have hit me sooner. I would never, ever make that mistake again," Cam said.
That's good to know, since Cam Newton ended up taking some wrong turns that could have threatened his very promising career in the sport.
USA Today also reported that Cam Newton has the pleasure of now sharing the limelight with the former Florida football player. Both professional athletes are featured as cover guys for the GQ NFL kick-off issue this year. And the only controversy about it should be that there aren't enough of the issues published for everyone to get a copy.
