Tim Tebow, the Denver Broncos’ draft pick in 2010 who once lived five minutes from the Aurora movie theater that came under attack in July, wants to stay connected to the local community in that area and help the victims recover in any way possible, including getting them involved in Broncos games, according to The New York Daily News:

“Whatever we can do for a family,” Tebow said. “Try to find certain families, try to bring them to a game. They are probably Broncos fans. So try to get them involved in a Broncos game.”

Tebow, now a quarterback with the New York Jets, said that helping them is part of his “mission statement” and he hopes that his efforts will let them forget about the incident, if only for a moment:

[I]f we could put a smile on someone’s face going through this, either let them forget or let them think about something else, you are doing something pretty cool.”

Tebow is one of several NFL players to reach out to the community in the wake of the shooting that left a dozen people dead, including a 6-year-old girl.

The Broncos’ recently-acquired quarterback, Peyton Manning, called the hospital where many of the wounded are recovering and spoke to four of them to offer his support. Six other players from the Broncos visited the Medical Center in Aurora to spend time with them as well, while Steve Smith, the Carolina Panthers wide receiver, donated $100,000 to families of the victims to help pay for some of the medical costs.
