Tim Tebow's Jets could be on HBO's 'Hard Knocks' - USA TODAY

The TV gods have to make this happen. New York Jets owner Woody Johnson said Monday the club would consider starring on HBO Sports' reality show Hard Knocks again this season.

Imagine the TV possibilities. With QB Tim Tebow coming to town to (supposedly) back up starter Mark Sachez, Gang Green already has a brewing QB controversy.

Will Tebow be satisfied with being a backup after beating the AFC champion Pittsburgh Steelers in the playoffs last season? And how will Sanchez handle having competition for the first time in his young pro career?

Then there's loud-mouthed, cursing coach Rex Ryan who was the breakout star the last time the Jets appeared on Hard Knocks in 2010. And the turmoil in the dysfunctional Jets locker room, with Santonio Holmes and other malcontents spouting off and stirring the pot.

Johnson addressed the Hard Knocks question Monday. Via ESPNNewYork.com:

I've heard [the speculation], but we've yet to receive a formal invitation,' Johnson said during a promotional appearance to launch the NFL's new pop-up store in Manhattan. "And when we do, we will take a look at it."

Johnson said there have been informal talks with HBO, but he declined to speculate on an outcome because "we can't react to anything unless it's a real invitation." But he suggested the Jets would give it strong consideration, saying he'd discuss the matter with general manager Mike Tannenbaum, coach Rex Ryan and other team officials.

"I think all those concerns, the positives and negatives, we'd have to look at, sit around the table and say yay or nay," Johnson said. "It's not a perfect science. But we'd use our best judgment at that point."

HBO said there will be a "Hard Knocks" before the 2012 season begins following a hiatus last year because of the lockout. HBO spokesman Greg Domino said "we do not discuss the process."
