Tim Tebow publicly denied rumors that he is moving to Northport during a press conference at the New York Jets mini-camp practice session earlier this month, according to a transcript published on SB Nation.
"I can deny (that). I have never been there," the quarterback told reporters. "It is just another one of those rumors like, 'I am living in Hoboken.'"
Rumors began that Tebow was eying property in downtown Northport after he was reportedly seen enjoying tacos at The Whales Tale on June 5. Though Tebow denied having visited our neck of the woods, many, such as Patch reader "Bill," won't deny what their own eyes showed them. "He absolutely was there," he commented on our original article. "I have a boat at Britannia and saw him and a woman having lunch at the bar."
News 12 also sent out a crew to do a whimsical investigation of the Tebow rumors. "Where's Tebow?" they asked, sporting a poster with the quarterback's picture and writing that said "Have you seen this man?" They inquired at the barber shop, at the village dock--even at Northport Police Headquarters. "It was a lot of fun," said Chief Ric Bruckenthal.
Unfortunately, News 12 didn't unearth any dirt, though Sports Reporter Kevin Maher said via Twitter that they'll keep digging. Despite Tebow's public denial that he is moving to Northport, many residents are saying the contrary. Just take a look at these Tweets:
DC0N40 Jun 16, 1:04am via Twitter for iPhone: "speaking of tebow, he bought a house a block away from my dad in Northport"
OJdubz22 Jun 21, 1:30pm via Twitter for iPhone: Tim Tebow just walked by my moms studio looking for a house in northport/centerport #hallelujah he's friends with the guys now @bkrav
One thing is for sure: Northport is a long way from Florham Park. What a commute!
