Tebow, Meyer to speak as part of Leadercast event - Sun-Sentinel

A star-studded guest list topped by New York Jets quarterback Tim Tebow highlights this year's Chick-fil-A Leadercast.

Leadercast is a one-day leadership development event that is broadcast live from Atlanta to hundreds of sites throughout the nation, including Delray Beach. The event, which is co-sponsored by the city, will be shown from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. May 4 at the Office Depot Corporate Headquarters, 6600 N. Military Trail in Boca Raton.

"Each year, a diverse group of internationally acclaimed authors, leadership experts and practitioners share insights that will help leaders empower others at work, at home and in the community," Dot Bast, the city's training and development manager, explained via email. "This year's theme is the Power of Choice and how to make choices that matter."

In addition to Tebow, the list of speakers includes Ohio State football coach Urban Meyer. In 2008, Meyer coached Florida to a national championship with Tebow as his quarterback.

And that's just the sports side of things. Also featured are Soledad O'Brien, anchor and special correspondent for CNN; Marcus Buckingham, an author and researcher, Patrick Lencioni, an author and president of The Table Group; John Maxwell, a leadership expert and author; Angela Ahrendts, the CEO of Burberry; Roland Fryer, a Harvard professor and CEO of Education Innovation; Andy Stanley, a leadership expert and communicator; and Sheena Iyengar, author of "The Art of Choosing."

"This is the third year that the city of Delray Beach has hosted this dynamic conference and the first year partnering with Office Depot and the Office Depot Foundation as Platinum Sponsors. The previous two years, we utilized the city of Boca Raton Police and Fire Administration Building," Bast said.

The Chick-fil-A Leadercast offers participants an opportunity to grow as leaders. The city is using the event to help launch a community leadership alliance.

"The simulcast itself will provide encouragement and inspiration by the speakers with time for breakout discussion during lunch. The first of three roundtable events with local leaders is tentatively set for June 15, and all event ticket holders will be invited to attend these," Bast said.

"The structure will be developed as feedback and the intentions unfold. Our Legacy Sponsors, who have already demonstrated their abilities as innovative risk-takers, will likely collaborate in crossover products and services. These processes will be models for local entrepreneurs to reconsider how and with whom they partner for economic growth and revenue."

The event is open to the public thanks to co-sponsorship by the city of Delray Beach and Office Depot. Tickets for the event must be purchased in advance and are $65 or $55 for students and nonprofit organizations. Lunch, refreshments and parking are included. All ticket holders must present a valid ID at entry.
