Tim Tebow could become a nightmare for the Broncos
By Chris Dolge

Christmas came early for the Broncos this year. The domino effect that gift wrapped Peyton Manning to Denver has left everyone with any sort of emotional attachment to the team giddy with anxiousness to test out the new toy.

The move has also inflicted everyone in town with a severe case of memory loss. With instant Super Bowl aspirations on the mind, former golden boy Tim Tebow has become an afterthought in the Mile High City, joining a short list of former Broncos’ quarterbacks still playing in the NFL.

People have washed their hands from ever having had to root for the oft-scrutinized and over-analyzed QB that won a division title his first year as a starter.

Yet, since arriving in New York, Tebow has said all of the right things. He could be frustrated with all of the adversity he’s had to face since he set foot in Dove Valley and he could be upset with the Broncos for jerking him around and shipping him off to New York. He could feel slighted after winning a first round playoff game and be more outspoken about wanting to dethrone Mark Sanchez. But he hasn’t.

One of Tebow’s biggest priorities moving forward could be to stick it to John Elway and the Broncos whenever he has the chance. He could feel like he wasn’t given a fair shake in Denver and that management bailed on him as soon as something better came along.

But he’s been a class act through this entire process and â€" instead of causing controversy in New York â€" he’s accepted his role as a backup again. And instead of lashing out at the Broncos, he’s been gracious.

“Well, that was an interesting couple of weeks!” Tebow tweeted last week. “Now that things have finally settled down a bit, I wanted to take a moment to thank all of you great Denver fans for all of your support. The ride that we were able to enjoy together this past season is something that I will always cherish. I’d also like to thank all of my former coaches and teammates as it was an honor to play for and alongside each of you. I will always be grateful to the Broncos organization for giving me the initial opportunity to fulfill my dream of being an NFL quarterback.”

He may always have a place in his heart for the Broncos, but this tweet brings closure to a rollercoaster chapter of his career. Rightfully so, his focus can now shift to the Jets; leaving only his dog, Bronco, as a reminder of his first years in the NFL.

Tebow may be moving on, but Broncos’ fans should continue to keep a close eye on his career. More importantly, they should be rooting for him to fail.

With Jay Cutler, who essentially forced his way out of town, it was easy for fans to want nothing more than to see him struggle in Chicago. Viewed as a pouter on the field and a complete jerk off the field, it hasn’t been very hard to root against the guy.

But with Tebow, who inspires at every turn and is probably the best role model in professional sports, hoping to see him fail is easier said than done.

Call me soulless or cold hearted, but rotting on the bench in New York is not good enough. I want to see him unseat Sanchez as the starter, divide the locker room and the city, and then perform disastrously under center. Simply put, I want to see the mother of all circuses descend upon New York this season.

The last thing Elway and the Broncos need is to see Tebow mildly succeed, let alone prosper as a quarterback in the NFL. Four or five years down the line (or sooner), when Peyton Manning officially calls it quits, if Tebow is running roughshod through the NFL, Elway and company will have some explaining to do.

If the path to the Super Bowl ever runs through MetLife Stadium and the Tebow-led New York Jets, this trade could go down as one of the biggest bungles in NFL history. And somewhere Josh McDaniels will be smiling.

Do you want that?

It’s okay to be excited about Manning and becoming an instant Super Bowl contender, but the best thing for the Broncos in the long run is for Tebow to have a short-lived career with the Jets and in the NFL. Elway may never admit it, but deep down, Tebow succeeding is a possibility that must scare the heck out of him.

And for those that bleed Broncos orange, it should scare the heck out of them too.
