Analyst: Jets' Ganaway pick may be for Tebow package - New York Post (blog)

So, did Tim Tebow influence the Jets draft?

Former Colts general manager and current ESPN analyst Bill Polian thinks so.

After the Jets selected Baylor running back Terrance Ganaway in the sixth round, Polian pointed out that Ganaway would fit in an offense designed for Tebow, the Jets backup quarterback.

“When you look at what (Terrance) Ganaway did in college â€" option," Polian said. "What did Tim Tebow run in college? Option. You got a package right there. There’s your package. That’s part of what they drafted here."

It's an interesting theory. Three of the four offensive players the Jets drafted came from option-style offenses in college. Ganaway and guard Robert T. Griffin both played at Baylor with Robert Griffin III running a version of the spread-option.

Stephen Hill, the Jets' second-round pick, played in a triple-option offense at Georgia Tech.

Jets general manager Mike Tannenbaum said Tebow was not a factor in their decisions.

"There's a trend in college football," Tannenbaum said of the option. "A lot of those offenses, we all see the same things on Saturdays. We graded the players for us as Jets. We used the same grading system, and that would just be a coincidence. "
