It might not be a future quite like the recent past, but itâs a step in the right direction.

Last week at Tennessee, Driskel had 219 passing yards for two touchdowns and chipped in 81 rushing yards as the Gators piled up 555 yards of total offense in a 37-20.

Tebowâs first SEC start came against the Vols in 2007. He led Florida to a 554-yard offensive outburt, throwing and rushing for two touchdowns each in a 59-20 win in Gainesville.

Driskel (6-foot-3, 237 pounds) has the size, the grit and some of the physical gifts of Tebow. And, Driskel appears to be a better pure passer.

Still, one game and one yardâs difference do not validate a comparison between Driskel and arguably the greatest Gator. But at the very least, Florida fans have to be pleased to finally see the first quarterback since Tebow that might have some staying power.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6878562146894992528.post-70729403589823101082012-09-17T22:00:00.001-07:002012-09-17T22:00:30.912-07:00Gators QB Jeff Driskel inspires comparisons to Tim Tebow - Orlando Sentinel (blog)

7:44 p.m. EST, September 17, 2012|By Joe Morgan, For the Sentinel

GAINESVILLE â" Tim Tebow has played in Denver and New York since his college career ended, but he never truly left Gainesville.

John Brantley, Trey Burton, Jordan Reed, Jacoby Brissett and Jeff Driskel have dealt with expectations set by Tebow during the seasons since the 2007 Heisman Trophy winner's departure.

In 2010 and 2011, Florida was 15-11 with a 1-8 mark against ranked opponents.

However, since winning the starting job after a drawn-out position battle with Brissett thanks to his scrambling ability, Driskel has inspired a new wave of hope with his performance at quarterback this season.

Using both his arm and his feet to make plays, Driskel has averaged nearly 8 yards per touch during Florida's 3-0 start in 2012.

His performance in 2012 has drawn comparisons with Tebow.

It's nothing new for Driskel.

He has heard the comparisons since his days leading the Hagerty High offense. He was the No. 1 quarterback recruit in the Class of 2011. Driskel has long attempted to play down the similarities with Tebow.

"I've definitely heard those comparisons," Driskel said. "Even back in high school. Just because of our body size and the way we can run the ball. It's nice to be compared but I wouldn't go that far and say I try to be like him or watch his film and try to be like him, but I guess we do play similar styles."

Much like Tebow, who first endeared himself to UF fans during a win at Tennessee, Driskel had his coming-out party in Knoxville, Tenn.

Tebow ran for a crucial fourth-and-1 conversion on the Gators' game-winning touchdown drive during a 21-20 victory against the Volunteers during the 2006 season.

Driskel amassed 300 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns in Florida's 37-20 win against Tennessee on Saturday at Neyland Stadium.

Driskel completed 14 of 20 passes for 219 yards and two touchdowns. On the ground, he ran for 81 yards on eight carries.

For his efforts against the Volunteers, Driskel was named the Southeastern Conference offensive player of the week.

"It's a great honor," Driskel said. "All kinds of great players out there putting all kinds of crazy numbers up."

Driskel's numbers would have been even more impressive he had not stepped out of bounds eight yards into what looked like a 36-yard touchdown run against Tennessee. The 28 yards subtracted from the run would have given him 109 rushing yards against the Volunteers.

The last Gators quarterback to rush for 100-plus yards in a single game was Tebow, who accomplished the feat five times during his career.

Florida receiver Frankie Hammond Jr., who has played with both Tebow and Driskel, said the two differ mechanically when it comes to passing, but share a bond in the run game.

"[They are] similar when it comes to running, that's definitely the main similarity you can see in the two," Hammond said. "Both of them can run."

Linebacker Jon Bostic likes the threat Driskel's feet pose to opponents. Bostic said it has been difficult for Florida's defense to get a handle on Driskel in practice due to his scrambling ability.

"That's one thing we said about him, we hated two-minute [drills] because we turn our backs, and he takes off running," Bostic said. "Then, we've got to turn around and run and try to catch him."

Whether Driskel can match Tebow's success individually or in terms of team success has yet to be determined, but Muschamp has confidence in the Oviedo native's ability to lead the offense. As he gains more experience, Driskel will continue to improve.

"Well, I've always felt like from a potential standpoint that he had everything that he needed to be successful," Muschamp said. "There's no question about that. It's a maturing process as a player, especially at that position."

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6878562146894992528.post-59091238546939322852012-09-17T20:00:00.001-07:002012-09-17T20:00:12.535-07:00Tebow a non-factor -- again - ESPN (blog)
PITTSBURGH -- The Jets must think they're still in training camp in Cortland, N.Y., trying to hide the Wildcat, because they're doing a pretty good job of keeping it under wraps.
For the second straight week, Tim Tebow was a nonfactor on offense. In Sunday's 27-10 loss to the Steelers, the Jets' backup quarterback lined up in shotgun for only three plays, not entering the game until the 8:39 mark of the third quarter.

[+] Enlarge
Joe Sargent/Getty ImagesTim Tebow's only rush went for 22 yards -- the Jets' longest run.
Tebow ran for 22 yards on his first play -- a zone-read option -- and he handed off the next two plays, a 12-yard run by Joe McKnight and a 6-yard loss by Shonn Greene.
On second-and-16 from the Steelers' 45, Jets O-coordinator Tony Sparano decided it was enough Tebow. Mark Sanchez returned.

"No, it's not frustrating," Tebow insisted. "Every year is a new opportunity and new challenges, and you just have to try to do the best you can."

Asked if he expected to be more involved in the game plan, Tebow said, "It's hard for me to say what the game plan was. I just go in when they tell me and try to do the best I can. It all depends on how the game is going."

After a touchdown and field goal on the first two possessions, the Sanchez-led offense fizzled. The Jets (1-1) could've used a spark from Tebow, who has a history against the Steelers: As Denver's starting QB, he torched Pittsburgh for 316 passing yards in a wild-card win last postseason.

Coach Rex Ryan didn't give a direct answer on why he didn't use Tebow more often. Later, when pressed, he said Shonn Greene's head injury was a factor. Greene missed most of the second quarter after getting drilled in the head by S Ryan Mundy. Greene is part of the Tebow package, according to Ryan, who said Greene's absence "limited us a little bit in that package."

After two games, Tebow has lined up in shotgun only 11 times out of 114 total plays -- about 10 percent of the offense. Before the season, GM Mike Tannenbaum estimated that Tebow would be on the field for 10 to 20 percent of the snaps. Tebow has yet to throw a pass, and he has six carries for 33 yards.

For his part, Sanchez wanted no part of any questions regarding Tebow's role -- or lack thereof.

"You have to ask coach Sparano," he said.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6878562146894992528.post-53586620553836846992012-09-17T14:30:00.001-07:002012-09-17T14:30:31.135-07:00Rex Ryan shows Tebow fatigue signs - ESPN

Updated: September 17, 2012, 4:50 PM ET
By Rich Cimini | ESPNNewYork.com

Is It Tebow Time?

NEXT VIDEO

Is It Tebow Time?
Is It Tebow Time?

Steelers Muscle Jets, 27-10
Steelers Muscle Jets, 27-10

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- Six months after the trade that brought him Tim Tebow and countless questions about the Wildcat, New York Jets coach Rex Ryan displayed his first signs of Tebow fatigue Monday when grilled about the quarterback's lack of involvement in Sunday's 27-10 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

"We always said from Day 1, we can do it 20 times, 40 times, 10 times, two times, whatever," Ryan said of the Wildcat, taking a bit of a defensive tone. "We determine that, OK?"

Tebow didn't take an offensive snap until the 8:39 mark of the third quarter.

He immediately broke out for a 22-yard run but was pulled after three plays as the Jets faced a second-and-16. "Those are things we'll always look at, but I believe Tim can pass. We'll make the decision on when a guy's out there and when he's not out there."

Ryan said they were planning to run "some" Wildcat plays against the Steelers, who allowed 316 passing yards to Tebow in last season's wild-card loss to the Denver Broncos, but he suggested the circumstances of the game didn't warrant it.

Early on, Ryan didn't want to disrupt Sanchez's rhythm. He orchestrated an eight-play, 90-yard touchdown drive, the Jets' longest game-opening drive since 1997. But they also got off to a hot start in Week 1, and that didn't prevent them from using Tebow at the outset of an eventual 48-28 rout of the Buffalo Bills.

On Sunday, Sanchez cooled off quickly, but Tebow remained on the sideline throughout the first half. In the second series of the third quarter, Tebow provided a lift, racing 22 yards on a read-option run.

Tebow bounced to his feet, fired up, and "it was great to see," Ryan said.

On the next play, Tebow handed off to Joe McKnight for a 12-yard gain to the Steelers' 39-yard line. The Jets finally had some semblance of momentum, but Shonn Greene was dropped for a 6-yard loss on the next play, and that was the end of Tebow.

"No, it's not frustrating," Tebow said after the game, adding, "I just go in when they tell me and try to do the best I can. It all depends on how the game is going."

The Jets (1-1) still faced a 10-point deficit at the start of the fourth quarter, and Ryan felt Sanchez was their best bet in that situation.

So he kept Tebow -- who had five fourth-quarter comeback wins last season for the Broncos -- on the bench.

Jets blog

Looking for more on
the green and white? That'll be up to us," Ryan said. "We'll always do what we think is in the best interest of our football team."

In two games, Tebow has appeared in only 12 offensive plays, including 11 behind center and one as an H-Back.

Ryan insisted the situation isn't that hard to manage, claiming he had to answer "the same kind of questions" in 2009 and 2010 when Brad Smith ran their Wildcat. But Smith never was a threat to Sanchez's job.

After a brilliant opener, Sanchez completed only 10 of 27 passes for 138 yards and a touchdown against a Pittsburgh defense that didn't have its biggest stars -- safety Troy Polamalu and linebacker James Harrison.

But the Steelers throttled the Jets' passing game with aggressive press coverage on the wideouts, flummoxing Sanchez.

Sanchez was "a little inconsistent," Ryan said, adding: "Obviously, I'd like to see us throw with a higher percentage level. It was barely audible, but ever so faintly it came from the shadows. âPut in Tim Tebowâ they mumbled. Sure, their mouths were sealed after Mark Sanchezâ great Week 1 performance, but as the running game struggled against a stout Pittsburgh Steelers defense, it was time to test the waters. Then, late in the third quarter, it happened. The Florida product was finally in the game and he ran it up the gut for a 22 yard gain. But as soon as it started, it was over. That was his lone carry of the day, relegated to special teams for the remainder of the contest. Yet with just that one run, he only fell one yard short of the total posted by starting running back Shonn Greene. The difference being Greene needed eleven carries to get his yardage. Itâs about right now that you start yelling at your screen and call me a (insert insult). Just hear me out a second.

Will Mark Sanchezâ performance bring back out the calls for Tim Tebow? (Don Wright/Associated Press)

No, I donât have a crystal ball, but Bilal Powell led all rushers with 33 yards on nine carries. Is it unreasonable to think that Tebow couldnât have performed better had he been given another eight carries? He would have only needed to average less than 1.5 yards per carry to match Powell. Given his production on just one attempt, why not roll the dice? Youâre screaming at me again! Yeah, I know, why would any sane person leave him in the game when Sanchez was doing a fairly decent job? Well, Rex Ryan did leave Sanchez in the game, and the result was two straight Sanchez incomplete passes. The ensuing drive started off with a 13 yard pass by Sanchez, followed by a five yard run and then two more incompletions. It shouldâve been right then that Rex made the decision to get Tebow back in the game. Santonio Holmes was getting frustrated, and the running game had gone stagnant. Why abandon the guy who produced your single biggest rushing gain of the day?

It was deja-vu on their first drive of the fourth quarter, a three yard rush by Powell followed byâ¦wait for itâ¦two incompletions. Iâm no savant, but even I see a pattern emerging. Still, Rex stuck to his guns and only fueled the Tebow fire. One which had nearly been extinguished last week. Letâs face it, the Steelers defense is among the best units you can find, and itâs no surprise the going was tough for the Jets offense. Not only was there a negative pattern developing, Rex must have forgotten Tebow was the same player who pulled a playoff upset against this very defense giving you fits. All it would have taken was one more snap for the enigmatic quarterbackâ¦errrâ¦football player, and if he gets stuffed, thereâs no more controversy hype to deal with. Had he done well, at minimum the momentum could have shifted and resulted in a win. Instead, Sanchez is back on the thin ice of public perception and Tebow supporters are fueled by what could have been. He still should only be considered fantasy waiver wire fodder, but a few more Sanchez performances like this and youâll be wishing you stashed him on your bench. Remember when I said things could change in a New York minute last week?

-Adrian Mojica
Follow on Twitter @FFFdaily

Posted in: Fantasy |

Comments may be no longer than 2000 characters and will post to the site shortly after submitting.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6878562146894992528.post-17361512405822162182012-09-17T06:30:00.001-07:002012-09-17T06:30:31.582-07:00Mother of NFL's Tebow addresses Care Net - Republican & Herald

ORWIGSBURG - Pam Tebow, mother of Heisman Trophy winner and NFL player Tim Tebow, came to Schuylkill County on Sunday as part of the Touchdown 2012 fundraiser at the Blue Mountain High School auditorium for the Care Net Pregnancy Center of Schuylkill County.

Care Net, a nonprofit ministry organization, is looking to raise $100,000 to secure its current location, 110 S. Centre St., Pottsville, which has been put up for sale.

"She definitely has a pro-life message and is here to help us raise funds to keep a lot of the programs we have going," Cheryl Cresswell, director of the center in Pottsville, said before the event Sunday afternoon.

Pam Tebow began speaking for women's groups, nonprofit fundraisers and various events throughout the country after she was given a national platform to encourage the pro-life message when ESPN aired a portion of an interview with her that focused on her refusal to abort "Timmy" despite being advised to do so by her doctors. She is also writing a book on parenting.

"This is a ministry of service," Tebow said Sunday. "Scripture said do not just look out for your own interests, but look out for the interests of others. That's what Care Net is doing."

In 2010, her son funded a Super Bowl commercial featuring Pam Tebow that celebrated family and life. Pam Tebow said, according to a Barna survey, the commercial resulted in 5.5 million people "having to rethink their stand on abortion."

"We need volunteers in this pro-life ministry," Tebow said. "Care Net needs volunteers. God himself will exalt you as you serve in this ministry."

Care Net is a life-affirming crisis pregnancy center assisting women in unplanned pregnancies with free pregnancy testing, parenting and material support without prejudice and has been serving communities Schuylkill County for more than 13 years.

Cresswell said the organization has grown substantially in the last year and recently sponsored a 5K marathon with about 150 participants.

"It's an amazing thing," Cresswell said. "We want to put our heads to it and really try to accomplish something."

Tickets for the event sold for $10. Cresswell said more than 400 tickets were sold before Sunday.

Cresswell said Sunday's event was the organization's largest fundraiser of the year as it replaced the annual banquet.

According to Care Net Schuylkill's website, the organization's mission is "to offer a safe place for women and their families to explore their options related to pregnancy and their future" by "being a trustworthy, compassionate, faith-based provider of confidential, loving support."

The center provides additional services such as parenting education, post-abortion counseling, biblical counseling, abstinence education, teen life skills and community referrals. The center also has a sexual integrity group and a men's ministry.

Care Net established The New Life Shoppe in 2008 at the center to raise funds and promote the organization's services. Open to the general public, the shop has diapers, clothing and other items available.

Anyone looking to volunteer or support Care Net and the New Life Shoppe and its mission to assist women and teens can call 570-624-7244. Donations of diapers and clothing are also always welcome. On the next snap, Tebow handed off to tailback Joe McKnight and watched him run for 12 yards. Then he handed to Shonn Greene, who lost six yards. It was the last Tebow played on offense as the Jets fell to the Steelers 27-10.

âThat kind of puts you behind the stick a little there and obviously at that time youâre out of it,â Rex Ryan said. âI think we need to throw the football in those situations.â

Steelers coaches tracked Tebowâs presence throughout. Tebow reprised his role as the personal punt protector, standing in the backfield twice, but then splitting out wide before a punt near the end of the third quarter. Pittsburgh called a timeout to discuss its approach, then Tebow shifted back to his usual position when the play was finally executed.

âI just go in when they tell me and try to do the best I can in whatever role,â Tebow said. Asked whether he heard chants of his name, Tebow demurred.

âI donât pay attention or listen to it,â he said.

GETTING PERSONAL
If the Jets are going to delight in safety LaRon Landryâs explosive hits, they are also going to have to live with his reckless penalties.

Landry was flagged for a late hit on Steelers wideout Emmanuel Sanders after the receiver stepped out of bounds at the end of a 19-yard reception. Landry was in pursuit, but did not stop once Sanders was clearly over the line. The penalty was costly as 13 yards were tacked on.

âIâm going to continue to play the way I play,â Landry said. âI just gotta be smarter and use better judgment.â

It was not Landryâs lone infraction. He was also whistled for a horse-collar tackle in the third quarter when he reached for wideout Antonio Brown and pulled him down.

âI love the way he plays and everything, but you have to do it within the confinements of the rules,â Ryan said. âThatâs something we really got to look at.â

DUSTIN TIME
How many tight ends does it take to replace an injured Dustin Keller?

Offensive coordinator Tony Sparano employed four tight ends on his unitâs opening drive â" three on one play â" as the Jets scored on a 90-yard march. Jeff Cumberland, Konrad Reuland, Dedrick Epps and Jason Smith each took snaps in the position. Reuland caught two passes from quarterback Mark Sanchez for 20 yards.

Keller, who hauled in one ball for seven yards last week, tweaked his right hamstring during practice on Wednesday.

TERMINATED
Fullback John Conner (knee) tweaked the MCL in his right knee and will undergo a precautionary MRI on Monday. . . . The Steelers defeated the Jets 27-10. (Sept. 16, 2012)

PITTSBURGH -- For all of the anticipation surrounding Tim Tebow's role in the Jets' offense, the designated Wildcat quarterback has had precious little impact. As in: almost none whatsoever.

In a 48-28 rout of the Bills, Tebow ran five times for 11 yards and didn't throw a single pass. And in Sunday's 27-10 loss to the Steelers, he played even less. Tebow appeared in just one series, carried once for 22 yards, handed off twice, and that was it.

Tebow didn't play until midway through the third quarter, with the Jets trailing 20-10 after Ben Roethlisberger's 37-yard touchdown pass to Mike Wallace. Taking a shotgun snap from the Jets' 27-yard line on first down, Tebow ran up the middle to the 49. After being tackled, he got up, looked to the Jets' sideline and exhorted his team to get back in the game.

"I was trying to get a little momentum back on our side, try to get a little spark," Tebow said of his run. "I felt like we did that a little bit."

Tebow handed off to Joe McKnight on the next play, and McKnight gained 12 yards to the Pittsburgh 39. But after Shonn Greene took a Tebow handoff and lost 6 yards, Mark Sanchez came back in. He threw incomplete twice and the Jets punted.

Tebow never made another appearance except as a blocker for punter Robert Malone.

"We've just got to be able to sustain it and not have a negative play," Tebow said, referring to the 6-yard loss. "When you do that, it hurts. Without that, I felt like we got some momentum going and had a good chance to go down and score."

The last time Tebow faced the Steelers, he was the Broncos' quarterback in a 29-23 overtime win in Denver in last season's AFC wild-card playoff round. Tebow threw for 316 yards and two touchdowns, including one on the first play in OT. Tebow hit Demaryius Thomas in stride over the middle and he ran for an 80-yard score.

It was a far quieter day for Tebow at Heinz Field. As time ticked off near the end of the fourth quarter, Steelers fans derisively chanted "Te-bow! Te-bow!" perhaps as much out of relief that the former Heisman Trophy winner hadn't ruined their day this time.

"I don't pay attention and listen to it," Tebow said when asked if he heard the chants.

He wouldn't second-guess his lack of game action, though.

"It's hard for me to say what the plan is. I just go in when they tell me and try to do the best I can," he said.

"I'm just trying to help the team any way I can. We had things rolling for a little bit and just try to keep things going a little just to keep the momentum going. We got a touchdown the first drive.

"It's a game of momentum. When you lose it, it's hard to get it back. I'm just trying to do the best I can in this role and just get better every day and help this team try and win football games. Unfortunately, we came up short today."

Could Tebow have provided a spark had he played more?

"I just want to be ready whenever my number is called and try to go in there and help the team," he said. "Whatever my role is, I just try to stay ready at all times."

User rating:
3
(9) Click to rate

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6878562146894992528.post-4055066693966333032012-09-16T12:30:00.001-07:002012-09-16T12:30:09.549-07:00Rex found idea of Jets acquiring Tebow 'exciting': report - New York Post (blog)
2:40 PM, September 16, 2012 ι By BRIAN COSTELLO
There is an in-depth article in this week's "New Yorker" magazine on past calendar year with the Jets.

The writer was given some behind-the-scenes access and the article features some interesting nuggets.

Among them:

Some more details of how the trade for Tim Tebow went down.

The writer talks about the Jets' loss to the Broncos last year in Denver against Tebow's Broncos and quotes coach Rex Ryan saying, "Kid's a [bleeping] winner. Can't throw a lick against us and they beat us."

Flash-forward to March 19 and Ryan and general manager Mike Tannenbaum are eating Mexican food at Newark Airport when Tannenbaum brings up the idea of trading for Tebow.

"On the third appetizer I say if Peyton signs at Denver, what do you think of Tebow?" Tannenbaum said.

Ryan said he found the idea "exciting." Ryan met Tebow at the Super Bowl and discovered that Tebow was not "judgmental" as Ryan had perceived him.

As Ryan went to buy a milkshake, Tannenbaum called the Broncos to express interest in Tebow.

The article describes wide receiver Santonio Holmes as shocked at the trade and recounts the phone conversation between Holmes and quarterback Mark Sanchez with Sanchez struggling to understand the move.

Holmes said Sanchez felt better once he saw Tebow in practice.

"It allowed Mark to relax," Holmes said. "He sees Tim Tebow has no qualities he does. He sees he can be a great teammate and football player, but not the same kind of quarterback. All he can do is line up and play football. Run, score a few touchdowns, and the people love me! Don't expect slants or curls, just expect football from Tim Tebow."

The article also describes the divide between the offense and defense last year with the defense blaming the offense for many of the team's struggles.

Former offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer said, "I'd be lying if I said it didn't piss us off. But we used it as motivation."

Schottenheimer is criticized by one unnamed defensive coach as saying he wanted to "reinvent the offense every week."

The article said Tannenbaum and Ryan replaced Schottenheimer with Tony Sparano because they wanted an offense that would stand up to the defense.

There are also some details about Ryan's reinvention this offseason. The writer describes the final team meeting last year with Ryan's voice cracking as he says "I will get better. Will you?" He then left the room in tears.

As for Ryan's mysterious "sensei" it is revealed that he is an executive counselor whom Tannenbaum hired.

Ryan describes him as a "Chinese guy. Old dude. He's helpful. I'm an extrovert. Now I realize I pull away from introverts. I'm learning to be more inclusive."

There is also details of a meeting at the beginning of training camp with Tannenbaum discussing left guard Matt Slauson and how his $1.3 million salary was too high. The Jets received a trade offer for Slauson, according to the story, but decided to keep him once he agreed to a pay cut to $1.05 million.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6878562146894992528.post-61695898546021454102012-09-16T08:30:00.001-07:002012-09-16T08:30:29.734-07:00Jerry Greene: Trying to escape the Tebow Zone - Orlando Sentinel

September 16, 2012

I'm so ashamed.

After returning to Page Two last week with talk about Dwight Howard, I follow that this Sunday morning with talk about Tim Tebow. Meanwhile, the rest of the team was nearly flawless as they coasted to a 48-28 victory.

The success of the traditional offense forced the backup quarterback to remain on the bench. Mark Sanchez completed 19 of his 27 passes for 266 yards and three touchdowns. That was his third multi-touchdown game against the Bills in his short career.

When the offense is running as smoothly as it did last week, there is no reason to kill the momentum with a Wildcat package.

However, things will likely be more difficult against the Steelers in Week 2. While Pittsburgh struggled to defend Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos in its opening game, the addition of safety Ryan Clark will make a big difference. With him, this is basically the same unit that led the NFL last year in both yards and points allowed.

If the Jets offense struggles early, expect to get more touches from their not-so-secret weapon. Tebow will not only give the run game an extra dimension, but he has the ability to beat the Steelers with the pass as well. In his last game as a starter, he led the Broncos to a playoff win over Pittsburgh with a career-high 316 passing yards.

Tim Tebow spends most of his first game with the Jets on the bench.
Jeff Zelevansky/Getty Images
In that game, head coach Mike Tomlin basically dared Denver's quarterback to throw deep by stacking the box and leaving the deep middle of the field relatively open. If the Steelers repeat this strategy, it could give the Jets a chance to score in a way that they simply could not with Sanchez on the field.
Tebow was brought to New York to play football. The fact that his presence gives Sanchez extra motivation is only a side effect. The Jets need Tebow's playmaking ability as a weapon on offense when the team cannot get it done in other ways.

That scenario will present itself often on Sunday against the Steelers. Expect the beleaguered quarterback to get his opportunity to shine with double-digit carries and a few passing attempts.

If he is successful, it can be the beginning of a very good season for the entire organization.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6878562146894992528.post-713958219551132092012-09-16T07:30:00.001-07:002012-09-16T07:30:30.414-07:00Tebow Deserves to Have a Team Built Around Him - Bleacher Report

If the New York Jets experiment works, and Mark Sanchez continues to play the way he did in Week 1â"mind you, I'm still not soldâ"then Tim Tebow will have to leave if he's to ever get a fair shot at being a starting QB in the NFL.

Tebow deserves to be more than a gadget player, or a career backup. He's had too much team success to never give him a shot at being a starter.

When he's had the chance to start, he's been decent. His record is 9-7 when he's been given the keys to the team, and that includes a playoff victory. This success came in Denver where the Broncos were dragged kicking and screaming into the very short Tebow-era.

Trying to build a conventional offense around Tebow is a waste of time. He needs a philosophy tailored for his unique skill set. That said, he also needs to continue to develop his passing, and fundamentals.

He'll never be the most pure passer in the world, but he doesn't need to be.

Tebow needs a strong running game, possession receivers, and an O-Line that can adapt to his improvisation. Most importantly, he needs a coaching staff that is willing to tailor their philosophy to his strengths.

You're seeing some of this with Cam Newton. The Panthers had great success on the offensive side of the ball by allowing Newton to be himself. In 2011 Newton accounted for 35 touchdowns in Carolina.

Don't get me wrong, Newton is far more talented than Tebow as a throwing quarterback, but the flexibility in playcalling would help Tebow.

Does Tebow need to leave New York to get a fair shot at starting?

Does Tebow need to leave New York to get a fair shot at starting?

Yes

No

Maybe, but he doesn't deserve to start

Total votes: 1

Tebow doesn't need to be part of the drama in New York. He needs to land in a city via trade or free agency that says "you're our quarterback." The Seattle Seahawks and Arizona Cardinals were prepared to hand their starting quarterback jobs over to men that have accomplished less than Tebow.

Matt Flynn was beat out for the job this year in preseason by Russell Wilson, but a competition was not the original plan. Kevin Kolb initially lost his job with the Cardinals midway through the 2011 season, but when he arrived in Arizona he was brought there to be the man.

Flynn had one start before nearly being handed the job, and Kolb had seven starts in Philadelphia before the Cards tabbed him as the man. If they got a shot, why can't Tebow get his?

If Tebow gets a fair shake and falls flat we'll know his bottom line. At that point then maybe a positional change or acceptance of a reserved role will be in order. I admit it is a risk to place that much trust in him, but he's already shown enough to get a job with some security.

Follow Brian Mazique and Franchiseplay on YouTube and Twitter for reactions, analysis and news from the world of sports and sports video games

Subscribe on YouTube

Follow @BrianMazique

Follow @franchiseplay

Like us on Facebook

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6878562146894992528.post-63705431355251547012012-09-16T07:00:00.001-07:002012-09-16T07:00:30.435-07:00Tim Tebow's plate-game heroics â eating four dishes in one meal - New York Post

Does this mean he had to say grace four times?

Quarterback Tim Tebow, who hungers to lead the Jets, put away no less than four heaping plates of food during a single meal at a New Jersey Italian restaurant recently.

The chiseled, 236-pound signal-caller first chowed down on an eggplant dish and veal Sorrentino entree while breaking bread with Ohio State football coach Urban Meyer at Guerrieroâs Ristorante, a hot eatery on the main drag of South Street in Morristown.

But the two plates of Neapolitan fare couldnât satisfy the former Florida Gator.

While Meyer, his old college coach, pitched Tebow on the idea of helping him recruit for the Buckeyes, the devout diner focused on the food, even picking at Meyerâs meal of papardelle after he had plowed through his own.

Christopher Sadowski

HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMP: Tim Tebow (with shirt off in camp) demolished these four dishes at an NJ eatery.

But that wasnât enough, either. So Tebow called an audible.

âI said, âAre you still hungry?â And he said, âYes,â â recalled restaurant owner Jack Guerriero. âSo he ordered a papardelle for himself â" and a second Sorrentino.â

Each dish comes with enough veal, mushrooms and peppers to choke an Indianapolis Colt.

âHe was really eating. His head was down in the bowl,â Guerriero recalled.

The restaurateur said he could understand Tebowâs need to carbo-load. He described the QB â" reportedly one of Gang Greenâs strongest players â" as âhuge, thick from back to front,â adding, âI wouldnât want to try to tackle him.â

Knowing Tebow doesnât like strangers to crowd him Guerriero, a big Jets fan, made sure the other diners stayed away.

âI told them, âLeave him alone,â â the owner said.

If Tebow gained any fat from the Italian cuisine during the preseason meal a few weeks ago, it certainly doesnât show. He flashed his six-pack abs when he took off his shirt for a post-practice run.

brad.hamilton@nypost.com

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6878562146894992528.post-13658620084577417712012-09-16T06:30:00.001-07:002012-09-16T06:30:30.414-07:00The Fab Five Picks - Orlando Sentinel

September 16, 2012

I'm so ashamed.

After returning to Page Two last week with talk about Dwight Howard, I follow that this Sunday morning with talk about Tim Tebow. It's just one of those things you have to put up with."

Asked what he has against Hoboken, home of Frank Sinatra and the reality show Cake Boss, Tebow laughed and replied, "Nothing, except everybody says I live there, still to this day."

Sponsored Links

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6878562146894992528.post-4640780528865208612012-09-15T22:30:00.001-07:002012-09-15T22:30:30.524-07:00Tim Tebow and the Jets: The Wildcat's latest incarnation - Pittsburgh Post Gazette

It's not so much that Byron Leftwich is rooting for Tim Tebow when he comes to Heinz Field today with the New York Jets.

And it wasn't as though he was pulling for him last season when Tebow surprised the Steelers, the city of Denver and the National Football League with a deep passing display that nobody thought was possible in a wild-card playoff game.

But Leftwich, a backup quarterback for the Steelers, is rooting for Tebow to succeed in his role with his new team, if for no other reason than the job opportunities his style of play creates for quarterbacks who might otherwise be shunned by the NFL.

"That's the great thing with what happened with the success Tebow had last year," Leftwich said. "I loved every bit of it. I didn't want him to beat us, but, as a quarterback, I remember those times when guys like Charlie Ward and them were still playing. These were good quarterbacks who didn't get a chance to do the types of things teams are doing now.

"But just think -- Charlie Ward! There are a lot of people I can name who didn't get the opportunity because maybe they weren't tall enough. That's not a prerequisite now. I'm happy for the whole thing because of the opportunity it gives to other quarterbacks who may not be a pure pocket passer."

Tim Tebow isn't the person who brought the Wildcat offense to the NFL. He is merely running the formation for the Jets as a wrinkle to the offense that is supposed to highlight quarterback Mark Sanchez, receivers Santonio Holmes and Dustin Keller, and running back Shonn Green.

No, the man responsible for introducing the Wildcat to the NFL is the same person who now runs the Jets' offense -- Tony Sparano, the former Miami Dolphins coach who surprised the New England Patriots with the scheme four years ago. The Wildcat had so much instant success that other teams began copying the direct-snap offense.

Sparano was hired as the Jets offensive coordinator during the offseason after he was fired in Miami. Two months later, the Jets sent a fourth- and sixth-round draft choice to Denver to acquire Tebow, even though they had what they thought was a marquee quarterback in Sanchez.

Instant marriage.

Welcome back to the NFL, Wildcat offense.

"They got a good situation over there, two really different types of quarterbacks," said Steelers defensive coordinator Dick LeBeau. "One can run the multiple option and is a real running threat. Sanchez can run, but he's not the guy you want turning the option. You got two different offensive packages, depending on who's on the field. They present some problems. I'm sure that's why they got Tebow."

Tebow makes it tough

The Steelers discovered in their overtime playoff loss in January the problems Tebow can present. He not only tortured them with five passes of 35 yards or longer, including the winning 80-yarder 11 seconds into overtime, but he gave them fits running the option. Tebow ran 10 times for 50 yards, including an 8-yard touchdown, many to James Harrison's side.

With the Jets, though, his role is more limited. He was on the field for 12 plays in last week's resounding victory against the Buffalo Bills, though only eight when he lined behind center.

Of the eight, five were in the Wildcat formation. On two others, he lined under center. On the opening play, he was the H-back. On two of the five Wildcat formations with Tebow, Sanchez lined at wide receiver.

All told, the Jets gained 22 yards when Tebow was on the field. And he gained 11 yards on five carries.

"Tebow makes it a viable deal, maybe more so than some of the other Wildcats, because he's a little bit of a better passer and has experience running it all through college and pretty much last year," LeBeau said. "I feel good about our guys knowing what to do, but stopping it is something we'll have to see about."

When the Jets made the trade to obtain Tebow, even Sanchez was surprised -- "rattled," according to his teammate, Holmes, the former Steelers wide receiver.

But Sanchez was anything but rattled anytime Tebow entered the game in his Jets debut. In fact, he appeared to be motivated by the moment.

It could have merely been a coincidence, but the first six times Tebow was in the game, Sanchez came back on the next play and threw all six times, completing five. Two of those were touchdowns.

"It's got to be tough," Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger said about the system. "I feel bad for [Sanchez]. Obviously, they blew out Buffalo, so it wasn't as big of a deal. But I know it wasn't easy. It's got to be hard because, as a quarterback, you want to stay in a groove. But the Jets always do some unconventional things."

Too risky for some

Tim Tebow isn't the only player who had success running the Wildcat against the Steelers.

In 2009, Cleveland Browns wide receiver Joshua Cribbs, a college quarterback, ran eight times for 87 yards from the formation, including a 37-yard run. One year later, Cribbs ran three times for only 2 yards from the Wildcat against the Steelers before he was knocked unconscious on the final run by Harrison, his former teammate at Kent State.

"That ends the Wildcat," Harrison said, somewhat cryptically, after the game. "It's out the window."

Maybe for the Browns. Not for Tebow.

That, though, is part of the problem with the Wildcat: Starting quarterbacks can't run the formation because they are subject to vicious hits on the option. And some teams, like the Steelers, don't want to take a marquee quarterback such as Ben Roethlisberger out of the game, even for a play.

"It never fit us because I would never put Ben Roethlisberger, who we're paying $100 million, and line him at wide receiver," said former Steelers offensive coordinator Bruce Arians, now with the Indianapolis Colts. "I've been fortunate to be around franchise quarterbacks and you don't take them out of the game and you sure as heck don't put them at wide receiver."

The Steelers experimented briefly with the package in summer 2009 after borrowing some of the nuances from the University of Arkansas, the original purveyors of the Wildcat. But they trotted out the package just once after the regular season started and scrapped it when they saw how quickly their defense adapted to the intricacies of the formation in practice.

"People would ask why didn't you do it with Dennis Dixon," Arians said, referring to the former Steelers quarterback who ran for 1,208 yards at the University of Oregon. "Because Dennis Dixon scrambled twice with us and got broken up twice."

Tebow, though, is not Dennis Dixon. Or Joshua Cribbs. He is 6-foot-3, 236 pounds and capable of absorbing hits ... and delivering them.

"Some of these quarterbacks are so big and strong, they can take the hits and they know how to take the hits," said Jets coach Rex Ryan. "Before, if you ran the option in NFL, you were crazy. I think we're really the dying breed."

Expanded opportunity

The Wildcat phenomenon has slowly faded since the Dolphins first introduced the formation in a 25-point rout of the New England Patriots on Sept. 22, 2008.

In seven plays with running back Ronnie Brown as the triggerman, the Dolphins gained 138 yards and scored five touchdowns in a 38-13 victory in Foxboro, Mass., that ended the Patriots' NFL-record regular-season winning streak at 21 games.

The night was significant for the Dolphins and the league because Sparano, Miami's rookie coach, was bold enough to try an offensive scheme that dated to 1907 when it was called the single-wing by Glenn "Pop" Warner.

The Wildcat's path to the NFL could be traced to the Dolphins' quarterback coach, David Lee, who ran the package when he was the offensive coordinator at Arkansas. Miami went on to finish 11-5 and win the AFC East -- its first winning season since 2005.

When the Dolphins first introduced the look, Brown was in the shotgun and running back Ricky Williams was in the slot. Williams would go in short motion before the snap and create a "mesh point" with Brown after he received the snap, allowing for several variations of a run or even a pass.

Teams attempt to initially disguise the scheme by keeping the quarterback in the game and lining him at split end. But the run rarely, if ever, goes to that side of the field because it put the quarterback at risk of trying to block a linebacker.

Most teams have used position players other than quarterback to run the Wildcat. That includes Cribbs and former Jets receiver Brad Smith, who runs the direct-snap offense with the Bills. Both, though, were quarterbacks in college.

Tebow is the exception.

"I'm just happy the opportunity it gives the next guy who may be a running quarterback who can still throw who would never get a look in the past," Leftwich said. "Now they have to give these guys a look."

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6878562146894992528.post-31011264348240684262012-09-15T20:30:00.001-07:002012-09-15T20:30:29.459-07:00Tyler Wilson means well, but he's no Tim Tebow - al.com

By Kevin Scarbinsky, Birmingham News al.com
on September 15, 2012 at 9:14 PM, updated September 15, 2012 at 9:15 PM

Arkansas quarterback Tyler Wilson reacts during the third quarter of his team's 52-0 loss to Alabama. How many times will we see the Jets backup QB?

The answer to these questions will start revealing the importance of Tebow to the NFLâs network partners even when heâs not playing.

And if Mark Sanchez picks up where he left off last week, Tebow wonât get much playing time.

To a lesser extent, this resembles the Tiger Woods factor. Even when he was out of contention, CBS or NBC would focus on him because the casual fans still wanted to see him â" badly.

Itâs different with Tebow. CBS isnât going to give viewers a close-up of Tebow when Sanchez is dropping back to pass against the Steelers. Still, as was proven last week, CBS wants to show as much of Tebow as it can â" even when heâs not playing.

Last Sunday, it bordered on ridiculous. CBS may have broken a record for providing close-ups of a player staring into nowhere from the sidelines. And when Tebow sat with Sanchez, getting instructions from offensive coordinator Tony Sparano, Tebow was the main focus of the shot.

This wasnât done accidentally. It has been determined the unwashed masses want to see Tebow, whether or not heâs playing. Sunday, with most of the country getting Jets-Steelers, the game will air in Tebow friendly precincts. An even larger portion of the audience will want to see him.

Something else to look for: If those Tebow shots begin dwindling itâs a signal his star is fading too.

Donât look for that to happen. At least not this season.

NBCâS WAITING GAME

Does anyone still watch NBCâs âFootball Night In America,â the one hour, 15 minute pregame show?

This has nothing to do with the quality of the program. Itâs just that live game action on Fox or CBS is still going on when âFNIAâ airs. Last season, and last Sunday, games went deep into the NBC show, which begins at 7 p.m. The late afternoon Fox or CBS game is followed by a postgame show that eats further into âFNIA.â

NBCâs competition wants those eyeballs glued to their NFL product. The NFL doesnât care. Roger Goodell & Co. have moved late afternoon starts back to 4:25 p.m. Thereâs no reason to believe the situation will change.

Itâs reasonable to ask: At some point, will NBC consider cutting âFNIAâ to a half-hour show?

T-MACâS FUTURE

If incumbent Fox comes away with a big chunk of MLBâs new TV deal, speculation about Tim McCarverâs future will begin.

T-Mac, less than a month shy of 71, is still going strong but canât go on forever. The next term of his employment will likely depend on the length of any deal Fox might sign with MLB.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6878562146894992528.post-20487514113855186372012-09-15T13:30:00.001-07:002012-09-15T13:30:29.901-07:00Source: Tebow may want trade; Gators making impact - Gatorsports.com (blog)

Jets backup quarterback Tim Tebow prepares to take a snap against the Bills in the fourth quarter of last week's game. A source says Tebow will seek a trade if he doesn't become the starter by season's end. (Photo by The Associated Press)

Tim Tebow would love to get significant snaps this week against the same Steelers team he dramatically booted from the playoffs last season.

More importantly, if he doesnât start to see more of the field â" at least more than his five carries last week â" a source told Gary Myers of the New York Daily News that heâll seek a trade out of the Big Apple.

âI think he will be a good soldier,â the source said Wednesday. âAt the end of the year, I think he will express those concerns to the Jets. He will want to move on. The one thing about Tebow is he is the quintessential team player. He would never do anything that is going to undermine the team. But heâs football-aholic. Itâs in his blood.â

âAbsolutely he will talk to the Jets or we will have misevaluated his competitive nature,â the source added. âThere comes a point, where they get it and realize this is who I am and just accept that role. Tebow is not there yet.â

According to the USA Today, Tebow denies the rumor.

âYeah, thatâs what these guys told me about a little bit ago. I find that pretty funny,â Tebow said. âItâs about as true as me living in Hoboken, I think.â

âI guess thatâs just part of what you have to deal with, rumors and stuff like that. I donât know,â he went on to say. âBut all I can say is I love being here as a Jet. Iâm thankful for it, I want to be here for a long time. Itâs just one of those things you have to put up with.â

The speculation is premature as itâs only Week 2, but itâs been fueled by starting quarterback Mark Sanchezâs performance in the teamâs opener. The much-maligned quarterback went 19-of-27 for 266 yards, three touchdowns and one interception in the Jetsâ 48-28 win over the Bills.

If Tebow were to seek a trade, the contract he signed with the Jets on March 21 could present an issue. In order to finalize Tebowâs trade from the Broncos, the Jets agreed to repay Denver $2.53 million of the salary advance that Tebow had received in 2010. The Jets are scheduled to pay off $1.5 million of that this season, with another $1.03 million coming next season.

That $1.03 million plus a base salary of $2,586,875 in 2013 would make it difficult for the Jets to get good value for the quarterback if he doesnât at least play a more prominent role with the team this season.

GATORS MAKING NOISE ENTERING WEEK 2
Major Wright
The Bears strong safety had six tackles (three solo) and one tackle for a loss in a 23-10 defeat to the Packers on Thursday night. Wright is coming off a solid year in which he registered 58 tackles, 3 INTs (one returned for a TD) and 7 pass defenses.

Jermaine Cunningham
Cunningham is pushing left end Rob Ninkovich for the starting job and may earn more playing time beginning this week. New Englandâs defensive end had a sack to go with three tackles (two solo) and a QB hit while drawing a holding penalty in the win over Tennessee. Cunninghamâs sack of quarterback Jake Locker came in the second quarter with the Titans facing a first-and-10 from their own 30-yard line and backed them up seven yards, ultimately leading to a punt on that series. Some speculate Cunningham will be used more in the coming weeks.

Percy Harvin
The Vikingsâ star receiver led the team in catches (6) and yards (84) in the teamâs 26-23 overtime win over the Jaguars. He also rushed five times for 20 yards and returned three kickoffs for 88 yards with a long of 30.

Will Hill
Defensive coordinator Perry Fewell has said the Giantsâ reserve safety will look to use Hill as a third safety or as a nickelback against slot receivers. He will likely be used on special teams coverage as well. Amazing to see Hill, who was walking around the teamâs locker room with his Gator backpack slung over his shoulder and no guaranteed money, in the pros as a contributor. Hill did see the field in the teamâs 24-17 loss to the Cowboys in Week 1 and recorded a tackle.

Reggie Nelson
The Bengalsâ safety recorded a team-high eight tackles (seven solo) and a pass defense. The Eraser is coming off his most productive season as a pro in 2011, and heâll most likely be one of Cincinnatiâs leaders in tackles by the end of the season.

Deonte Thompson
The Ravensâ receiver is seeing work as a kick returner. The rookie returned four kicks for 88 yards with a long of 27. Behind the Steel Curtain

After three years as starting quarterback of the New York Jets, Mark Sanchez wasn't exactly making people in the Big Apple forget about Joe Namath. 55 touchdowns to 51 interceptions and a passer rating hovering in the 70s probably wasn't what the Jets had envisioned when they traded up to the fifth spot to select the USC Trojan in the 2009 NFL Draft.

However, Sanchez did win four playoff games during his first two seasons, and he got New York to the AFC Champisonship game two years in a row. Sure, the defense and running game had a lot to do with those playoff runs, but Sanchez did have to make a clutch play or two in order to help the Jets advance.

2011 wasn't a great year for Sanchez or the Jets, as they missed the playoffs amid some real palpable locker room turmoil, led by none other than our old friend, Santonio Holmes.

The locker room controversy, and the fact that Sanchez wasn't developing at a faster pace certainly didn't bode well for his future in New York. And when the Jets were said to be interested in super free agent Peyton Manning in the offseason, it had to be a sign that maybe the end was near for the Sanchez-Jets union.

Surprisingly, however, the Jets gave Sanchez a three year contract extension in early March. Despite everything that happened up to that point, the roughly $40 million investment by New York had to be a shot in the arm for the young quarterback, right? The only thing left for Sanchez was to focus on his craft, maybe mature a little both professionally and personally, and eliminate anything that would distract him from reaching his fullest potential.

Well, almost immediately after the Jets gave Sanchez a symbolic vote of confidence, they also gave him one huge distraction to deal with: Tim Tebow. The Jets could have acquired a veteran backup quarterback to sort of act as a mentor to the young Sanchez and perhaps expedite his development--pretty traditional way to go about things--but instead of that, they acquired Tebow from Denver on March 21st after the Broncos became the winners of the Manning sweepstakes.

Not only isn't Tebow a veteran backup quarterback, he probably needs more development than Sanchez, and he's also a huge distraction wherever he goes. Personally, I don't know what the Jets could have been thinking with this transaction. If you want your young quarterback to reach his potential, you should give him an ideal working environment in order to succeed.

If you're an unproven quarterback, still trying to find your way, there is nothing ideal about having Tim Tebow as your teammate. Whether you love Tebow or hate him, there is no doubt that he has a way of inspiring both fans and teammates to believe in his limited abilities. It's no secret that New York is a huge media circus, and no matter how you slice it, Tim Tebow will be the two-ton elephant in the corner of the Jets locker room that will need to be fed for the duration of the 2012 season.

The Jets have created a Wildcat package for Tebow, and according to the team's gm, he'll take 10-20% of the snaps this season. That might not seem like much, but a poor performance by Sanchez coupled with a dazzling play or two by Tebow could be all it takes to create one huge controversy with the fans. And I'm sure the media in New York would have no trouble fanning the flames.

I know Sanchez isn't an accomplished franchise quarterback in the traditional sense, but he's an apprentice franchise quarterback, and he's supposed to be the leader of his team. Could you picture Manning coming out of a game for a Wildcat package? What about Tom Brady or Drew Brees? Yeah, me either. Imagine the firestorm of controversy it would have created in Pittsburgh had the Steelers signed Michael Vick in 2009. Yes, Ben Roethlisberger had already led the team to two Super Bowl titles by then, but that wouldn't have stopped the fans from calling for Vick at the first sign of poor play from Big Ben. How do you think Ben would have handled being taken out for a Michael Vick Wildcat package?

When it comes to quarterbacks, history tells us that you can't have four hands steering the wheel, even if two of those hands are only steering on 20% of the turns. In my opinion, when you have two guys taking the snaps, you're sending your team mixed-signals.

History also tells us that fans love the backup quarterback. In a league where fans would never in their right minds think that a Ryan Mundy could out-perform a struggling Troy Polamalu, they're always intrigued by the backup quarterback and think that he can come in and save the day. These days, it doesn't get anymore tantalizing for people than Tebow. The only way for Sanchez to avoid succumbing to "Tebowmania" is to continue having the kinds of games that he had in week 1, when he threw for three touchdowns in a 48-28 win over the Bills.

My money is on "Tebowmania" by mid-season.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6878562146894992528.post-10918585425146350872012-09-15T06:30:00.001-07:002012-09-15T06:30:30.052-07:00Tim Tebow: Jets' Backup QB Would Serve Better on Another Team in 2013 - Bleacher Report

Tim Tebow may never start a game for the New York Jets. If you would have said that before Week 1 people would have thought that it was a given.

Not after Mark Sanchez's performance. Not after the Jets hung 48 on the Buffalo Bills. Now Sanchez and the Jets get a beaten and battered Pittsburgh Steelers' defense that is very capable of being gashed as we saw Sunday night in Denver.

Tebow is seeing his chances of starting a game diminish by the week, and now there are trade rumors that he is reportedly denying, according to Kimberley A. Martin of NewsDay.com.

Rich Schultz/Getty Images

His services would be best served on another team, with a clear chance of winning a starting position. Unfortunately there aren't too many options on the market in 2013, but I'm sure he could find at least one team to land on.

Obviously, Tebow is a competitor and a force of nature, but his passing is porous to be generous. He can't read defenses, struggles against pressure, can't connect on easy passes and his timing is atrocious.

Tell us something we don't know, I know. But the reason why he will get a chance on another team is the fact that he is a competitor and because he played well (at times) with the Broncos, especially against the Pittsburgh Steelers in the AFC Wild Card Game when he put up 316 yards passing.

Will Tim Tebow Start one game for the New York Jets this season?

Will Tim Tebow Start one game for the New York Jets this season?

Yes

No

Total votes: 9

Tebow joining the Jets was a train-wreck as soon as it was announced. We all knew that he didn't fit with the Jets. We all knew that he wanted to be a starter in the NFL just like every other quarterback.

We are only one game in and we are seeing a distraction. This is coming off a 20 point victory! That is absurd.

The Jets love publicity whether they win or lose. It appears that will be the case with Tebow in 2012.

Tebow's next destination must be where he can start, not play second fiddle. Sanchez isn't the greatest quarterback but he isn't the worst, either. He made it to back-to-back AFC Championship Games.

That means something, right?

Tebow to the Jets was an awful decision in the beginning and it appears it's only going to get worse until he's under center on a full-time basis.

You wanted the headlines, Jets. Well you got your wish despite winning by 20.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6878562146894992528.post-70832105803155517322012-09-14T14:30:00.001-07:002012-09-14T14:30:33.311-07:00Tebow doesn't want a trade or a condo in Hoboken - Detroit Free Press
Redirect Notice

The previous page is sending you to
http://www.freep.com/usatoday/article/57782464
.

If you do not want to visit that page, you can return to the previous page.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0
